About Gloeobacter violaceus PCC 7421

Gloeobacter violaceus PCC 7421 is a unicellular cyanobacterium with unusual characteristics. This strains lacks thylakoids and phycobilisomes are attached to the plasma membrane. Phylogenetic analysis using multiple criteria strongly suggest that this strain is a member of early branching lineage.
